Smart Serve Heroes: An educational website to offer the public insight into the various safety considerations a hospitality employee must keep in mind

Visit elearning

Employees in the hospitality industry can have a tough time trying to balance customer safety with customer enjoyment, and if they have to take an action to maintain safety levels, it can be perceived negatively by customers – who see it as party pooping action. So, Smart Serve created an informative website aimed at the public to help them understand why bar staff sometimes do what they do. It uses a lively superhero analogy, and a fun visual and written tone that puts the focus on hospitality staff as the guardians of good times. It’s multi-device, with scrolling navigation.

Why we like it

  • Good fun! The superhero theme, sassy tone, and quirky illustrations are great – it comes at the subject from a surprise angle that really grabs your attention
  • Uses text as a visual element that’s integrated into the playful illustrations – not separated out as a side point
  • Takes a marketing approach to informing people about the subject
  • Multi-device, and has a side nav bar/indicator on the scrolling pages

How to improve this elearning

This is intended to work at an attention grabbing/awareness level, and it does so really well. Whilst the audience don’t need to be tested on any of the points, it would be good to see a short summary of them at the end – even if just as a list. It might help provide a longer lasting memory of what the heros are protecting.
